No One Expected...that I was Expecting!

Pepper is ready for her forever family…now that motherhood is behind her!

Hi, my name is Pepper and I’m a darling black Chihuahua who managed to give my foster mom, Laura, a pretty big surprise. Well, four of them

Laura kindly took me into her home in September straight from the San Jose shelter.  I was literally a puppy, just 9 months old, with lots of toys and walks and a big life ahead of me.  She picked me because her dog, Jilly, and I turned out to be simpatico. Isn’t that the best feeling ever?  We have been best buddies since we met!

The shelter doesn’t provide spay or neuter services without committed adoption now, so SVPP knew I would have to be spayed before I could find my forever family.  They made a spay appointment with the clinic, but fate (and a recent encounter with an unneutered male before getting to Laura’s home) had different plans for me.

Pepper debuts her puppies at a recent adoption event.

If I could have eaten pickles and ice cream, I would have.  Those around me thought I might have been having my first heat cycle, but mom, Laura, was a little worried (and maybe even suspicious) so she made an appointment for me with her vet.  The night before the appointment — uh oh — my first puppy plopped out on the living room floor!  Laura took me to my crate along with my new baby, Licorice, and within a few hours, I gave birth to three more “spice” puppies: Cinnamon, Mint and Ginger.  Andrea, SVPP’s foster program manager visited us to make sure we were all okay.

Although my family was completely unexpected, we all felt so loved and safe with Laura and Andrea taking care of us!  After three weeks, Laura got a break while I finished nursing and rested up.  The puppies are now in pairs in two different foster families and I’m back with Laura – living my best puppy life (I’m still less than a year old!) and happily looking forward to finding my forever family.

During this holiday season, please consider giving the gift of puppy love…and me!
